A non-fault claim is a claim where your insurer has been able to obtain 100% of the costs paid out following a claim from another party’s insurance company.
This is usually when a third party involved in a multi-vehicle incident has admitted fault or has been proven to be at fault.
In the case of a single vehicle incident or a theft, there is no third party to claim from which would result in your own insurer having to pay out the costs themselves, so this would go down as a fault claim
A non-fault claim does not usually have an impact on your no claims bonus however it can still affect your premiums going forward.
This is due to it being statistically proven that people involved in non-fault accidents are more likely to have to claim again in the future, which increases the likelihood of your own insurer having to pay out as a result.
